I’ve had trouble working on this particular piece as writing this, at least for me, signifies the end.

Our friendship began as two kids reaching up to the stars, two idealists admiring the awe and glory that those specs represented. We were kids that reveled in video game design, fantasizing about one day running a corporation larger than life. We’ve been crafting stories, talking about clothes, discussing music, love, and politics since the start. Together we figured out ploys that convinced our parents to buy us video games, then come up with schemes that may have allowed us to achieve our dreams. Throughout it all, we’ve been tied together by our shared ambition.

As we’ve grown this shared ambition began to crack but stayed glued together by enthusiasm. It has been a while since we last stumbled, and we’re back with the same starry-eyed gaze of childhood as we walk into our respective colleges. Although things are different now, with that last stumble the cracks are now clear, our desires are not quite and have never been the same.

For the first time in my life, I don’t know where I’m headed: a writer, a poet, a marketing director, a TV show producer. Who knows? You, on the other hand, still have a plan, a clear goal, a dream, your hand still firmly placed towards the stars and that’s great!

Our shared ambition may be gone, our unified goals have separated, but we are still dreamers dreaming. While I spend the next few years figuring life out. I hope you actively dare to defy what others expect. I hope you do shit your way — the dope way.

This first tape is the end of an era filled with long phone calls, rants, fights, jokes, and laughter. Even though this might be over, we are still the same ambitious kids striving for more.

The only question I have for you, the only thing I’m left wondering, are we going to continue to reach for or finally grasp those stars?

Goodbye trip.
